The basic types of wagers online are win, place and show wagering. If you bet on a horse to win, the horse must finish first. If you bet to place, the horse can finish first or second. The most conservative wager is the show wager where a horse can finish first, second.

* An exacta is a wager that requires you to select the first two finishers of a single race in the correct order.

Wager Types

* A trifecta is a wager that requires you to select the first three finishers of a single race in the correct order.

* A Superfecta is a wager that requires you to select the first four finishers of a single race in the correct order.

Wager Types For Kentucky Derby

'Boxing' a bet, means that the horses can finish in any order. For instance, if you bet a 2-3 Exacta Box, the horses can finish 2-3 or 3-2 and you win. Boxing Bets cost more.

Multiple Horse Bets

* A Daily Double wager requires you to pick the winner of two consecutive races.

Parlay Wager Types

* A Pick 3 wager requires you to pick the winner of three consecutive races.

* A Pick 4 wager requires you to pick the winner of four consecutive races.

* A Pick 5 wager requires you to pick the winner of five consecutive races.

* A Jackpot Pick 6 wager requires you to pick the winner of six consecutive races and have the sole winning ticket to collect the full jackpot. If you have one of the multiple winning tickets you split 25% and 75% goes into the Jackpot Pool.

You can select more than one horse in any given leg of a Multiple Race bet. The more horses you pick, the more expensive the wager.
